| Are you a new resident of Walton County or Georgia?
Welcome! We are glad to have you and your pets as neighbors. Our
county has traditionally been considered a rural county, but it is
growing and changing. We still have a lot of lovely wooded areas
that serve as home to wildlife. We also share open spaces with farm
animals as well as family pets. There are several cases of rabies
reported in our county as well as surrounding areas each year. It is
possible that your pet may come in contact with a wild animal with rabies.
For your pets' protection as well as your protection, Georgia requires
that all pets over 4 months of age have current rabies vaccinations.
If your pet was vaccinated for rabies before you moved here, you will need
to have proof of the vaccination.
It is easy for pets to become separated from their owners if they are
allowed out of their house or yard without a leash. Walton County
requires that your pets be restrained, especially when they are away from
your property. For your pet's safety and the safety of others, your
pet must be on a leash when you are walking with them.

10-Animals.
Walton County has an Animal Control Office. If you have lost a
pet, contact their office. They also have animals who are available
for adoption. The office is located at 1411 S. Madison Avenue in Monroe.
Their phone number is 770-267-1322 and the website is

Did you know that Georgia has specialty license tags that you can
purchase as your official vehicle tag? There are two tags that support the
Spay and Neuter program in Georgia. For more information on these tags,
