Dr. Jo Wellman and Moses

Dr. Jo Wellman lived in the Orlando FL area before moving to Georgia. She received her BA from Rollins College in History. You might be surprised to know that she worked as the Southeast Regional Recruiter for Starbucks before she decided to make her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian a reality. Dr. Wellman said “I had ALWAYS wanted to be a vet, but my fear of calculus and chemistry had stopped me from pursuing that dream. I finally overcame my fear and completed my pre-vet requirements at Perimeter College. I did not want to regret not doing (or trying to do) what had always been my life's passion.” She continued to work for Starbucks while completing the pre-vet requirements and while she attended Veterinary School. She received her veterinary degree from the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine. When asked what she liked about her job, Dr. Wellman said, "I enjoy helping people help their pets have long, healthy lives. I enjoy a job where no two days are alike. The variety and challenge keep me energized.” Her veterinary interests include the relationship between nutrition and wellness and the nutritional therapy for specific diseases like obesity, chronic kidney failure, etc. She enjoys working with both cats and dogs, but realizes that working with felines often requires “a special understanding.” In addition to her membership in AVMA and GVMA, Dr. Wellman is also a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners.

She shares her home with her four-footed children. She has 5 cats (Zoro, Simon, BJ, Sylvester and Baby Kitty). Her 4 dogs are Moses (a bloodhound), Riley, Lily and Taz – a dog with three legs. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking with her dogs, and catch-and-release fishing. She also claims to be a great “nap taker,” which she undoubtedly learned from her cats and dogs!
